The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Michigan State University invites applicants for one Assistant Professor position that is part of a multi-position thematic hire within the College of Communication Arts and Sciences that focuses on age, disability status, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, veteran status, and other social identities. The goal of the thematic hire is to grow our collaborative network of scholars focused on communication, communicative disorders, and disparities across a broad range of subdisciplines, bringing together new hires and existing faculty. Successful candidates will be part of a community of scholars and practitioners working to enhance social justice through research, teaching, outreach, and service in the fields of communicative sciences and disorders, communication, journalism studies, advertising, public relations, information science, and game studies. The hiring initiative will bring in five or more new faculty over two years.
The Department of CSD seeks an individual committed to developing an outstanding program of research and demonstrating excellence in teaching and service. The ideal candidate will be an energetic educator and scholar who is excited to join a dynamic department and work with similarly dedicated scientists in a collaborative and inclusive environment. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in developmental or acquired language disorders. We are open to a wide range of research interests related to language including augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), bilingualism, neurodevelopmental disorders, cognitive/neurogenic aspects of communication, and non-mainstream dialect usage, among others. Doctorate -communicative sciences and disorders or related field
- Ph.D. in communicative sciences and disorders or a terminal degree in a related discipline (e.g., education, linguistics, neuroscience, psychology, etc.)
- Demonstrated success, or potential for success, in obtaining external funding
- Demonstrated success, or potential for success, in scholarly productivity
- Expertise in developmental or acquired language disorders. - Ability to teach required and elective courses, some of which are clinical in nature, in our undergraduate and graduate degree programs
- Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association
