About the Position

This position manages all activities of the Course Materials department of the Western Associated Students Bookstore. The position is key in supporting the AS Bookstore’s mission to ensure the availability of materials necessary for a diverse student population to be successful at Western. This position is responsible for researching, planning, organizing and facilitating all aspects of the course materials department in the bookstore including customer service, materials handling, fiscal administration, staff resource management, inventory management and relationship management with faculty, vendors and other groups in the industry. This position serves as member of the Bookstore's leadership team and must functionally demonstrate excellent skills in emotionally intelligent leadership, team building, active appreciation, coaching and collaboration.

The State HR classification for this position is Bookstore Manager.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree AND 2 years' experience in retail buying or purchasing merchandise for resale OR equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diversity issues, including working with individuals from a wide array of backgrounds
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills and pro-active problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex processes and deliver on-time results efficiently and within operational goals
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and coordination for all course materials adopted for distribution to students
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with faculty and other groups on campus about course materials and their acquisition by students
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • One year of supervisory experience providing employee training and performance management
  • Demonstrated understanding of retail management principles, budgeting, retail inventory management practices and pricing strategies
  • Demonstrated excellence in emotionally intelligent leadership
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years’ full-time experience in Course Materials management
  • Experience adapting to the changing industry environment of course materials for education
  • Three years’ experience with inventory control management system (preferably Prism) or other course materials systems
  • Knowledge of course materials trends and ability to react to changing market and new business models
  • Demonstrated ability to manage campus relations with various groups faculty, technology services, Associated Students, and other groups
  • Participation in college industry education and trainings

Salary $5,086 - $6,839/month depending on qualifications and experience
