General Summary of Position:

The Office of Equal Opportunity & Diversity and Inclusion supports the University of Massachusetts Lowell in their mission to educate students for lifelong success in a diverse world and conduct research and outreach activities which sustain economic, environmental and social health.  We invite applications for a full-time Equal Opportunity Specialist/Investigator.  The Specialist/Investigator will effectively investigate alleged violations of campus non-discrimination policies, including allegations of discrimination based on protected class status (including but not limited to race, national origin, disability, sex), sexual harassment/sexual assault and other sexual misconduct, and retaliation. The investigator will be assigned to work under the direction of Director for Equal Opportunity. The incumbent will design and facilitate professional development/training programs in coordination with the Office of Human Resources, the Division of Student Affairs, and other campus partners. The Investigator will work closely with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Equal Opportunity & Diversity and Inclusion and the Director of Equal Opportunity and Outreach and other campus stakeholders to ensure compliance with state and federal statutes and University policy.  Some opportunities for remote work available.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, pre-law, business, human resources, or another related field. 

Experience:

  • Demonstrated (3-5 years) relevant professional experience in human resources, equal opportunity, or other comparable area of expertise relevant to the position
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations including Title IX, Title VII, ADA / Sec. 504, Violence Against Women Act and other applicable laws and regulations as required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated application of judgment based on experience and knowledge
  • Discretion, good judgment, and ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Exceptional levels of professionalism and tact
  • Ability to work independently and utilize strong time-management skills while completing multiple investigations

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience in higher education, and or large complex organizations, state, or local government
  • Ability to mediate or negotiate conflict
  • Ability to conduct neutral and impartial fact-finding investigations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field or J.D. with at least 2 years of demonstrated experience in conducting investigations within higher education in matters involving employees.
  • Knowledge of the principles of conducting trauma-informed investigations
  • Ability to create reports, analyze data, and prepare written summaries and analysis
  • Ability to manage multiple, on-going caseload of reported and complaints filed under university policies and procedures
