The Director, Employer Relations & Development will lead employer development activity for a successful expansion of employer recruiting partnerships. The university recognizes that in order to provide exceptional programs, like cooperative education and internships, employer development is a critical role. This position is a key contributor to employer engagement through recruiting and career development activities.
The Director, Employer Relations & Development markets UMass Lowell and its students to prospective employers. The director works closely with career development staff and faculty to develop and implement strategies, policies, and procedures that ensure a high-quality recruiting program. Working as part of a career development team devoted to sharing with students the practices, experiences, and networks needed for their professional growth, the assistant director cultivates partnerships that provide students with rich career building opportunities.
The Career & Co-op Center provides students and alumni with comprehensive career development support to successfully transition from their academic pursuits to their career goals by promoting and facilitating career education, exploration of options and connections with employers. The Career & Co-op Center is a part of the Division of Student Affairs & University Events. This is a dynamic division involved in key university-wide strategic initiatives, such as experiential learning, corporate engagement, retention, and diversity and inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Education:
Experience:
- Minimum of eight years professional experience in career services, employer relationship-building within higher education and/or business environments, like recruiting and college relations.

- Master’s degree
- Minimum of five years professional experience in career services, employer relationship-building within higher education and/or business environments, like recruiting and college relations.
Skills:
- Knowledge of best practices for establishing effective employer relationships and working with employer partners.
Adaptability and ability to forge new collaborative partnerships with employers, faculty, staff and alumni in a growing and transforming workplace.
- Ability to develop and independently manage projects with accountability to multiple university constituents;
- Excellent networking, presentation, writing and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient computer skills, especially CRM (Salesforce), spreadsheet, and career services software systems (Handshake).
