General Summary of Position:

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for one full-time, non tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to start on Sept 1, 2026.  The primary responsibilities will be to develop, oversee, and teach courses which prepare students for the Calculus and higher-level mathematics required of STEM majors. This position is renewable annually, potentially leading to an appointment as Associate Teaching Professor following six consecutive years of outstanding performance evaluations.

The successful candidate will teach and coordinate existing precalculus courses for STEM majors.  They will also train, mentor, and supervise instructors, teaching assistants (TAs) and learning assistants (LAs).  Additionally, they will provide oversight of our high school early college initiative math courses (CCA), collaborate with high schools and community colleges to improve student preparedness for university mathematics, engage in outreach activities, and support our efforts to improve the department's educational mission.  Examples of courses that candidates are expected to teach can be found at

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • An earned Master’s or Doctoral degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field.
  • Five years of experience teaching Mathematics at the high school, college or university level.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to engage multiple internal and external stakeholders with decorum and tact.

Additional Considerations:

  • Experience supervising or mentoring instructional personnel (TAs, instructors, tutors, or LAs).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience coordinating large multi-section courses or math support programs.
  • Background in active-learning strategies and student success initiatives in STEM.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation college students.
  • Familiarity with high school mathematics curricula and pathways to college-level math.

This is a full-time, benefited, Massachusetts Society of Professors/MTA/NEA union position. Anticipated salary range, minimum of $65,000 to maximum $95,500, based on qualifications.
