General Summary of Position:
This being an internal opportunity, only current UML Employees, irrespective of Bargaining units are eligible to apply for this position.
The successful applicant will conduct analytical and experimental research in the areas of plastics processing and characterization as well as examining the effects of plastic additives and environmental weathering on the long-term durability of plastics. The post-doc will also help immediate supervisor inwriting scholarly articles and reports and training graduate and undergraduate researchers on the team.
The initial appointment will be for one year with a possibility of renewal based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.
Job Duties:
- Coordinate and plan for multiple projects as well as design and conduct experiments
- Oversee graduate and undergraduate students research and provide lab and instrument analysis training to team member
- Prepare research papers, presentations, reports and proposals
- Maintain laboratory equipment
- Perform administrative duties, order supplies, maintain lab records
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
Education:
- Ph.D. in Chemical, Environmental, Materials/Polymer Engineering or related field
Experience:
- At least three years of laboratory research experience and student mentoring
Skills:
- Written and oral communications in English, proficiency with scientific computing software and chemistry and processing laboratory techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with polymer characterization and analysis; Familiarity with analytical techniques such as GC-MS, HPLC, FTIR and pyrolysis-based analysis
- Knowledge of polymer processing, rheology, and long-term fate of plastics in the natural environment.
Additional Considerations:
- Should demonstrate a minimum number of at least 2 publications in the field.
- Ability to work independently, with limited direction, as well as within a team environment.
- Ability to mentor and inspire students with limited research experience.

This position is a full-time, benefited union employee in grade PD which has range of minimum: $50,000 to maximum $76,000. Anticipated hiring range of $60,000-$70,000.00 based on grant.
This position is contingent upon funding. The initial appointment will be for one year with a possibility of renewal based on productivity and performance and the availability of funding.
