General Summary of Position:

The Marketing and Communications Multimedia Specialist is responsible for supporting communications and storytelling efforts primarily across digital and social media platforms, using animation, graphic design, photography, video and audio. Produced content should strengthen and advance UML’s brand messaging and reputation in addition to supporting recruitment and enrollment of students at all levels (undergraduate, adult degree completers and graduate students).

Reporting to the Creative Director and in concert with the department’s Editorial Director, graphic designers, social media team and staff writers, the Multimedia Specialist will conceptualize, pitch and generate content on a near-daily basis related to activities involving the Chancellor, Admissions and Advancement, as well as events or noteworthy initiatives at the university’s colleges. This position requires a highly creative, deadline-oriented individual with proven experience producing successful rich content while working collaboratively with a cross-functional team (Editorial, Design & Production, Web and Enrollment Marketing). It requires someone who can both pitch their own ideas and take assignments and run with them.

As a member of the Marketing and Communications team, the Multimedia Specialist will partner with other department colleagues to support programs and initiatives related to student recruitment, the student experience and campus life, donor and alumni relations, community relations and research and career-related endeavors of students and faculty.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in new media, multimedia, communications or related field—or equivalent of professional experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in multimedia production; print and digital
  • Proficiency with Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, Canva, CapCut, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Fluency with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
  • Understanding of accessibility requirements & captioning
  • Experience with both asset management systems and content management systems
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A passion for great storytelling, digital innovation and new technologies.
  • Successful track record of leading projects with many deliverables and timelines that involving multiple collaborators
  • A work style that maintains collegial relationships without sacrificing the integrity or quality of the final product
  • Experience handling shifting priorities and deadlines

Additional Considerations: 

  • Routinely advises on recruitment multimedia and design aspects of enrollment strategy, messaging, marketing tactics. Participates in development of messaging to prospective and admitted students, families and school counselors. Impact of error includes presenting the university in a negative light to these critical audiences.
  • The work is complex in that we should always be adjusting tactics to take best advantage of our resources and looking for creative ways to reach audiences. However, the processes followed to ensure quality control of creative content should be routine and methodical.
  • This position may oversee student workers.
  • The position works collaboratively with a wide variety of partners and clients across the University and on occasion, externally.
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education communications
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience with digital advertising campaigns

This position is full-time, benefited and SEIU union in grade P18.Anticipated salary based on experience within range. Minimum $72,170, 25th quartile $82,093 and midpoint of $92,017.
