General Summary of Position:

Incumbents in this series test, repair, install and/or maintain various types of electrical systems and equipment; troubleshoot electrical and related equipment; maintain adequate inventory of equipment and materials; inspect the work of outside contractors; and determine materials and/or equipment necessary for a job and on-the-job procedure changes. The basic purpose of this work is to ensure the safe and adequate functioning of electrical systems and equipment.

Maintain building temperatures by monitoring, troubleshooting, repairing, or installing electronic devices and related mechanical equipment involved with building heating, cooling and ventilation systems. This also includes repair of devices such as fume hoods, domestic hot water heaters, lighting and other energy management equipment involved with day-to-day building operations. Making modifications to the software logic and scheduling end devices to assist in saving energy.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrical License
  • Knowledge of state and local electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity.
  • Knowledge of the types and used of small hand tools used in electrical practices such as pliers, screwdrivers etc.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment including testing equipment used in electrical work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and precautions.
  • Knowledge of inspection techniques used in electrical trade,
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of hand held power tools
  • GED or High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical experience in the installation, construction, design, repair, maintenance or testing of building HVAC systems and electronic, electrical, mechanical systems with similar practical experience in the Controls Industry
  •  Knowledge of ASHRE standards as related to university heating, cooling and ventilation systems and requirements.
  • Knowledge of the principles of the operation for industrial heating, cooling and ventilation systems. This includes the knowledge of the operation of automatic temperature control systems, analog control devices, air compressors, air driers, valves, actuators, relays, fire dampers, air handling units, building air flow  systems, fan sequence, control inputs and outputs, VAV controllers, VMA controllers and networked control systems. Knowledge and ability to identify and resolve problems with the operation of these systems.
  • Knowledge of BMS systems used to control building heating, cooling and ventilations, including communication networks, consoles and input/output devices

This is a Maintenance & Trade Union position in grade 18. Step 1: $2,538.53 bi-weekly. Step 7: $3,036.09 bi-weekly. (Maximum step within range: Step 14: $3,593.58 bi-weekly).
