JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for overseeing, designing, and developing creative and innovative architectural concepts, designs and plans for projects implemented by Universal Creative. Under the direction of the Sr. Director of Design, formulates plans for the development and construction of new resorts, themed destinations, attractions, and renovations across all Universal Parks and Resorts. Directs and reviews Architectural design from outside firms as needed. Develop graphic and narrative reports on project sites and land planning. Develops drawings, sketches, master plans, models and creative design and planning solutions during the Blue Sky, Concept Development and subsequent phases of work. Responsible for designing feasible and construct-able projects to project program, creative intent, schedule and budget requirements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop and lead in-house and external resources to create park, facility and attraction master plans and architectural drawings in AutoCAD and other tools to support the creative project development. Develop graphic and narrative reports on project sites and land planning.
- Create, develop and oversee electronic 3-D modeling services in Sketch Up or other formats that accurately and clearly depict the architectural design intent.
- Ability to assemble documentation into a presentation format utilizing Adobe Photoshop, Power Point and/or other digital formats.
- Responsible for oversight and creation of aesthetic design, color boards, sketching and drafting needed to convey the design intent to outside Architectural and Engineering firms.
- Directs and reviews Architectural design from outside firms as needed. When needed, responsible for providing clarifications and in-field solutions to the contractor during construction utilizing drawings, sketches, and 3-D electronic models.
- Participate in the development of architectural and creative concept development.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Strong architectural and master planning design portfolio. Knowledge of design management, work planning, budgeting, scheduling, and variety of vendors. Knowledge of theme park technologies including ride, A/V, robotics, engineering, and various show systems. Knowledge of theme park attraction related architectural, project management, organizational, and production/construction practices. Demonstrates ability to lead creative and technical. Makes independent choices free from immediate supervision. Possesses solid aesthetic sensibilities and storytelling skills to support the creative process and to facilitate positive and productive communication between all disciplines. Highly creative with a keen sense of design. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Oversee diverse design disciplines and manage internal resources. Possess the ability to negotiate contracts for design services required to execute scopes of work. Interpersonal skills required to relate and provide value-added services to multiple operating groups including Food service, Merchandising, Operations and Maintenance.
SCOPE:
Non-routine; general policies applied to frequently changing situations. Influences decisions of moderate nature requiring high degree of tact, diplomacy, and maturity. Works with domestic and international Parks project, operations and tech services teams.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree required from a four-year college or university in Art, Environmental Design, Architecture, Theatre Design, or equivalent. Master’s Degree preferred. Licensed Architect preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
8 - 12 years: Experience in Architectural Design and Execution Required. Experience in Theme Park, Hotel and Entertainment Venues Preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Hand and computer drawing, and drafting skills required. Experience with AUTOCAD, Sketch Up, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and PowerPoint required.
