Overview:
Mailroom clerks are responsible for handling residential student mail and packages that come into and leave the university. Additional duties include: responding to questions; making referrals; data entry; operating standard office equipment; and operating a cash register. The Student mailroom clerk will utilize a combination of communication, organization, and teamwork skills
Responsibilities:
Sort, distribute, forward, and prepare incoming and outgoing mail. Utilize package and letter tracking software to maintain an accurate record of incoming and outgoing packages. Distribute packages to students. Prepare students’ packages for shipping, including taking payment. Process all mail and packages that are delivered. Use software to access student address information. Provide clerical support to the Student Mailroom and Facilities Departments. Perform regular audits to ensure data integrity with package inventory records. Assist students with mailbox use and troubleshoot as needed. Assist with other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Ability to work independently with high level of attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to working as a team. The ability to maintain confidentiality, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and make referrals. Competency with Microsoft Office software including Word & Excel. Availability, 15-20 hours per week, during regular business hours, evenings, weekends, and break periods. Attendance at all training sessions is mandatory. Must be able to fill vacant times that work with current employee schedules. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
