Overview:
The Robert Morris University Academic Media Center (AMC) serves RMU as a campus-wide, cross-disciplinary, immersive academic learning center, and incubator that provides media services to the University, as well as fosters innovative, collaborative, media-based experiential learning opportunities for diverse academic disciplines, campus organizations, and the community. To create such learning opportunities, the AMC leverages its state-of-the-art “converged media” studios, labs, Web and social media platforms, technologies, expertise, and technical support in partnership with faculty, staff, students, and community organizations. AMC’s mission: to empower students, faculty, staff, and the community with strengthened media literacy, critical thinking, knowledge sharing, creativity, communication skills, social integrity, journalistic experience, advanced education, and entrepreneurial spirit.
Responsibilities:
The AMC is looking for a Web-savvy work-study student to provide technical and creative design support for the AMC’s Web-based platforms, including the center’s Web pages, RMU Sentry Media’s site, and the Colonial Sports Network site, as well as various social media platforms utilized by the AMC and its partners. More specifically, the AMC is looking for a work-study student who has the ability and creative capacity to help enhance and manage the AMC’s Web pages on the RMU Web site, as well as student-driven Web sites affiliated with the AMC. The purpose of the AMC-specific Web pages is to promote the purpose of the aforementioned mission of the AMC and drive new collaborations across campus. The AMC Web pages themselves will be designed to educate and inform constituent audiences with both static and more dynamic content, as well as promote and manage AMC-hosted events. In addition, the work-study student will have an opportunity to provide technical and design support for RMU Sentry Media’s Web site, per a services agreement between the AMC and RMU Sentry Media and under the direction of Sentry Media’s student leadership team.
 
Duties include the following:
-Maintains the responsibility of regular and consistent site maintenance that includes AMC news content, as well as event information.
-Works closely with the newsletter intern to publish a quarterly email newsletter whose content will be embedded in the Web site.
-Provides leadership and guidance in updating and enhancing the AMC Web site.
-Works with the RMU Sentry Media leadership team/editors to plan and facilitate better design and functionality of Sentry’s Web sites and presentation of news, features, and other content. --That includes the business operations director with regard to advertising/sponsorship best practices and effective presentation on the RMU Sentry Media Web sites.
-Works with University Marketing & Communications when necessary to facilitate changes to the AMC Web site, insofar as the site is connected to – and part of -- RMU’s main Web site.
Minimum Qualifications:
The work-study must be proficient in Web design and in developing the most effective presentations of Web content. Preferably, this intern also must have some creative knowledge about current and future Web design and content presentation trends, as he or she will have an opportunity to provide some level of creative leadership and direction regarding the Web site(s) and their presentation of content.
