Overview:
RISE Center lab assistants are nursing majors who have successfully completed core 2nd year courses: NURS2020 Assessment and NURS3015 Foundations. They assist faculty and staff in the smooth running of the RISE Center both in classes and behind the scenes. Lab Assistants are responsible for working with students, administrators, faculty, staff, visitors as well as equipment and supply cleaning, maintenance, set up and tear down.
Responsibilities:
Posting is for Summer 2023 semester. Positions through the Fall 2024 and Spring 2024 semesters will continue as need is determined.  Under the direction of the RISE Center Director, and with guidance from the Lab Assistant Manager, and simulation faculty, the student worker will be responsible for assistance with coordinating the following operational aspects of the RISE Center.  Hours: approximately 8 to 10 hours per week for up to 15 weeks per semester 
Responsibilities:  • Maintain RISE Center as a clean, safe, and operational facility and optimal learning environment. 
• Assist faculty in supporting peers and underclass-students in physical assessment and psychomotor nursing skills. Lead open lab sessions for underclass-students 
• Provide support for lab instructors during Assessment and Foundations Lab 
• Set up and clean rooms, mannequins and equipment before and after labs, simulations, meetings and tours. 
Staff the front desk, monitor, assist and record external visitors, sign out loaned equipment, monitor locker key use, and other related assignments.
• Maintain appropriate levels of supplies and other disposable and non-disposable items for the operation of the center. 
 • Participate in Lab Assistant staff meetings.
• Assure that equipment is in good working condition prior to the start of all classes/ labs 
• Independently, or as part of a team, assist others, including faculty and staff, in utilization of simulation equipment, providing an appropriate orientation and training to simulator/ mannequin features, equipment, and the simulated learning environment. 
• Lead tours of the RISE Center and demonstrate equipment to new users and visitors. 
• Provide faculty instructors with instructional tools and technical or administrative support to carry out simulator sessions, including setting up room, and collecting feedback from students. 
• Compile supportive documents and props to enhance teaching sessions. 
• Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and practices for the RISE Center. 
• Serve as liaison between the simulation center and, community outreaches, and other simulation centers. 
• Maintain data and student confidentiality and security. 
• Develop professional working relationships with administrators and healthcare professionals. 
• Recruit, train, and supervise other RISE Center student worker employees to assure effective maintenance and repair of simulator and clinical equipment. 
• Ensure that all work assignments meet deadlines and standards of quality. 
• Monitor and control daily operations and assist with other special projects or initiatives. 
• Access RISE Center schedule via computer and participate in creating work schedule. 
• Accurately and consistently record own hours worked 
Keep Manager informed of issues that impact the RISE Center. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned. 
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications  Education:  • Enrolled in BSN Program. Successful completion of Nursing Assessment NURS 2020, and Foundations of Nursing Practice NURS 3015 with an "A" grade strongly preferred.  Experience:  • Previous experience in clinical care and education is preferred.  • Computer and Microsoft Office Experience  Skills and Attributes:  • Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and clinical applications.  • Knowledge of video recording  • Computer proficiency in PC and Mac-based software applications: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.  • Excellent, mature communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.  • Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills.  • Ability to work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines.  • Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.  • Ability to carry out responsibilities in a timely and meticulous manner demonstrating initiative and creativity.  • Ability to coordinate training assignments, tasks, and schedules.  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with healthcare professionals.  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.  • Ability to assess situations and adapt to highly dynamic environment.  • Ability to work evening/weekends.  • Work requires occasional heavy lifting and use of specialized medical equipment.
