Overview:
The Robert Morris University Department of Athletics offers a seven-month internship position for an undergraduate interested in working in collegiate athletic administration. Our office will provide on-the-job training and applicants should possess an interest in pursuing a career in intercollegiate athletics. This innovative leader will help the department build a comprehensive and sustainable leadership development program for student-athletes, and department staff and coaches. The intern will also develop a strategy for communications and social media that highlights student-athlete experiences, accolades, and leadership. These programs and strategies will include deliberate efforts to support diversity and inclusion efforts of the department. Responsibilities:
Duties and Responsibilities: Student-Athlete Development...Works with the department of athletics senior athletics administration to create a comprehensive and sustainable student-athlete development program including: Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) growth, presence, and impact, Captains leadership development, Emerging leader program. Meet with athletic leadership, coaches, current student leaders, campus leadership program leaders, and directors to assess current programming finding opportunities for growth and development. Work with the same groups to develop vision, mission, goals, strategy, and structure of comprehensive programming that addresses development of student-athletes as leaders throughout their sports careers at RMU; include goals and strategies to address diversity and inclusion initiatives as a part of the student-athlete experience. Develop leadership curriculum and programming that meets outlined goals. Create plans for leadership retreats. Plan calendar for the year for all leadership programming. Work with SAAC to increase impact on campus and in enhancement of the student-athlete experience and leadership programming; create events bringing entire student-athlete community together (i.e., beginning of year, mid-year, end-of-year). Work with athletics media relations to create a program strategy that highlights student-athlete experiences, accolades, and leadership. Create a presence on the website for student-athlete leadership programming information. Provide support around website messaging and content that focuses on enhancing the story of the student-athlete experience. Actively communicate and solicit local, regional, and national media coverage for student-athlete centered events and feature stories on RMU athletes and teams both promoting events and highlighting accomplishments using messaging pillars, brand truths, and key messaging points. Create a plan for facilitation of student-athlete awards throughout the department; nominate, facilitate, and promote student-athletes for awards; proactively collaborate across the Office of Communications to help share the news to various audiences. Assist in planning, operation, coordination, promotion, and execution of special student-athlete centered events, including the senior awards dinner. Promote the academic and athletic accomplishments of our programs as well as the community, educational, promotional, partnership, and development-related initiatives of the department of athletics with targeted approaches to appropriate audience segments, including prospective student-athletes. Staff and Coach Development...Work with the department of athletics senior athletics administration to create a comprehensive and sustainable department leadership development program. Meet with athletic leadership, coaches, campus leadership program leaders, and directors to assess current programming finding opportunities for growth and development. Work with the same groups to develop vision, mission, goals, strategy, and structure of comprehensive programming that addresses personal and professional development of staff and coaches as leaders during their employment at RMU; include goals and strategies to address diversity and inclusion initiatives as a part of the department experience. Develop leadership curriculum and programming that meets outlined goals. Create plans for leadership retreats. Plan calendar for the year for all leadership programming. Work with senior athletics administrative team to increase impact on campus and in enhancement of the leadership programming; create events bringing entire department community together (i.e., beginning of year, mid-year, end-of-year).
