Overview:
The Academic Media Center (AMC) is looking for a creative and motivated candidate to lead the university’s award-winning, student-run television station. The RMU-TV General Manager (GM) is the student worker responsible for the day-to-day operations of the station, engaging with all AMC student, staff, and faculty stakeholders to provide access to this vital community resource. Working closely with RMU Radio and Sentry Media, as well as AMC staff, the GM determines program scheduling, staffing, and strategy, as well as representing RMU-TV to the campus and wider student media communities.
Responsibilities:
The RMU-TV General Manager (GM) works with student media leaders to schedule all video production for RMU-TV. The GM assists the AMC Production Coordinator in hiring all crew for RMU-TV productions and may also fill in for a position vacant during any given week. The GM supervises delivery of shows across distribution platforms (Comcast, streaming, and highlights to Sentry Media), coordinates with Student Videographers to distribute event coverage on RMU-TV, and regularly monitors all RMU-TV platforms for quality distribution. The GM manages the RMU-TV student staff, schedules and conducts all crew meetings, and meets monthly with Producers and AMC staff to evaluate performance. The GM sets long-term goals for RMU-TV, including initiatives to identify and grow audiences on and off campus. Finally, the GM represents RMU-TV to the public, including the school administration and campus community. The GM must be familiar with the AMC Student Media Handbook, upholding RMU and department policies to ensure access to experiential media learning for all members of the RMU community. All paid AMC student personnel must work at least five hours on designated non-show AMC projects or outside productions per semester and attend at least one AMC skills development workshop. One hour a month will be reserved for required staff meetings. Training programs and special projects will be assigned as necessary. Student colleagues will be responsible for covering the hours they have agreed to work.
Minimum Qualifications:
All majors are welcome. Prior participation in RMU-TV across a variety of positions and roles is strongly encouraged. A successful candidate will have strong organizational and time management skills, an ability to communicate and collaborate with a wide variety of people, to problem solve, and work within deadlines.
