Overview:
Graduate Peer Tutors - Assist students at RMU in those courses where they might be having difficulty. Peer tutors work with students both one-on-one and in small groups in the Tutoring Center in the Center for Student Success, providing assistance in understanding course materials and homework assignments, while maintaining academic integrity as well as, when appropriate, study skills and time-management skills. Peer Tutors will be open to in-person and drop-in appointments with tutees during their shifts.
Responsibilities:
Attend at least four (4) hours of training before tutoring any student. Arrive for scheduled hours prepared and on time. Work patiently with students to enable them to become active, independent learners. Guide students to view their work in terms of progress rather than actual grades. Keep all conversations and interactions with tutees confidential. Refer any problems to the Center for Student Success staff. Ensure each student who has been tutored completes the electronic Tutoring Survey before leaving the Tutoring Center. Attend any and all training and/or meetings scheduled by the Tutor Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have completed 15 credits of study at RMU. Must maintain a 3.25 GPA Must have earned a "B+" or better letter grade in all courses they tutor. Must be able to work 2 hour shifts during the academic year.
Must provide a letter of recommendation from a Full-Time Faculty member from the RMU community to rmututor@rmu.edu.
