Overview:
Robert Morris University invites applications for the full-time position of Executive Director of Alumni and Donor Engagement. This position is a part of the University Advancement team, which is responsible for developing, planning and implementing a comprehensive program of fundraising and constituent relations focused on engagement and financial support. The Executive Director of Alumni and Donor Engagement is responsible for providing strategic direction for every aspect of the alumni and donor engagement program and will plan and direct the annual giving program, creating an integrated friend raising and fundraising effort. The Executive Director of Alumni and Donor Engagement creates, implements, and evaluates a strategic program to educate, cultivate, solicit and steward RMU alumni, friends, and students. The successful candidate interfaces daily with faculty, staff, and other divisions, including the Office of the President. This position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer.
Responsibilities:
  • Engages a community of over 30,000 alumni, providing a strategic vision of engagement, developed in partnership with the University President and Chief Advancement Officer.
  • Creates communications, programming and volunteer opportunities that develop and encourage lifelong relationships between the University and its alumni and donors.
  • Represents the University both locally and nationally at alumni and donor events, communicating through oral presentations, the mission, objectives, accomplishments and needs of Robert Morris University.
  • Manages annual giving operations, soliciting contributions from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends of the University to maximize giving and increase participation rates.
  • Develops and executes a crowdfunding/micro fundraising program to include selecting and managing platform; working with students, faculty, staff and alumni to coordinate projects; engaging with crowdfunding donors; and coordinating crowdfunding stewardship efforts.
  • Responsible for communications calendar and overall message of all alumni relations, annual giving, and stewardship materials, including print, electronic communications, web-based information, and social media.
  • Provides direction and leadership for advancement operations to ensure a robust portfolio, along with pertinent information to effectively qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors, stewarding them through the “moves management” cycle.
  • Leads donor relations and stewardship efforts.
  • Establishes and monitors metrics, goals, objectives, strategies, and analysis of results for alumni relations, annual giving and donor stewardship.
  • Supervises team members with alumni engagement, annual giving and stewardship responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with University colleagues to create and maintain pathways for alumni participation that advance the goals of the University.
  • Handles matters that are sensitive, confidential, and require a high level of professionalism.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years non-profit experience, preferably in higher education development, alumni relations or marketing. Relevant experience in client centric, membership or affinity driven programs recognized for effectiveness also will be considered.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles are especially important, as the role works directly with University leadership, including the President and members of the Board of Trustees,
  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, analytical and administrative skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member; takes initiative; prioritizes, problem-solves, analyzes and summarizes information; detail-oriented with the ability to see the larger picture.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement and build constituency programs and activities.
  • Strong written communications skillset, including working knowledge of web-based content management systems (CMS), social networking sites, and e-communications vehicles.
  • Strong oral communications skills, including significant experience in public speaking.
  • Skillset with Raisers Edge NXT preferred.
  • Experience in planning, organizing and facilitating a wide range of special events.
  • Demonstrated accomplishment in fostering productive relationships with volunteers, including recruiting, training and motivating volunteers.
  • Ability and experience in developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.
  • Willingness to travel locally and nationally, and work nights and weekends as required.
