Drives buses and/or vans to transport passengers over specified routes to local or distant points according to a time schedule. The Lehigh community takes seriously our commitment to antiracism and The Principles of our Equitable Community.

1. Operates University vehicles
*Complies with local traffic regulations

2. Administrative responsibilities
*Prepares Department of Transportation paperwork as required of commercial drivers operating commercial vehicles
*Prepares pre- and post-trip inspection report
*Prepares passenger logs
*Prepares and reports mechanical issues with vehicles

Grade: 7-37.5 

Special Considerations

The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community

This position is considered Essential Services Staff; Essential Services Staff are required to report to campus and remain during inclement weather and other emergency situations; they are defined as those needed to deliver student services and maintain campus facilities, campus safety and security

The schedules available are:  

  • S78390: This position is staffed 12 months per year, Monday-Friday, 1-9:00 pm (37.5 hours per week)
  • S77640: This position is staffed 12 months per year: Monday-Friday 3:30 -11 PM (37.5 hours per week)
  • S71750: This position is staffed 9 months per year, having off from the 3rd week of May to the 3rd week of August Monday- Friday 7:00 –3:00 AM (37.5 hours per week)

Shift changes during vacations and academic breaks 

This position is responsible for driving university-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record is required

Will often need to climb or balance, stand, use hands to touch, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, work near moving mechanical parts and be subject to frequent vibration

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

One to three years related work experience

CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement and no air brake restrictions required

Experience driving passenger buses

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
