Detailed Description:

This is a full-time temporary, benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2027. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.

The Events & Marketing Manager (Manager) will be responsible for leading event management, communications, and marketing needs for SDRCC. The Manager will serve as the primary lead in advancing event, program, and outreach goals for SDRCC. Responsibilities include: organizing, producing, and overseeing all events, programs, and communications related to the events; helping to determine priorities as they pertain to special events; developing and disseminating outreach materials for key stakeholders via traditional and social media channels; and assisting in the refinement and expansion efforts for the suite of resources including but not limited to social media, monthly news, media, website, email, digital library, and print materials. The Manager will coordinate with the Director and respective program area staff to ensure communications materials are developed in accordance with program needs. The San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative (SDRCC) advances climate change solutions and expertise across the San Diego Region. The University of San Diego serves as Fiscal Sponsor for the SDRCC which is currently housed in the Office of the Provost. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Event Management 

  • Lead, in partnership with SDRCC leadership and team members, coordination of events and programs effectively.
  • Serve as primary lead contact for all SDRCC events and programs and provide oversight and backup support for smaller events and programs led by individual program managers as needed.
  • Create and maintain event policy and procedures for virtual and in-person events. 
  • Coordinate with the Director and key team members to schedule dates, develop event agendas, branding, lead marketing needs, speaker communications, etc. 
  • Work with the Director and Assistant Director of Operations to establish and manage event budgets and generate final budget reports.
  • Identify specific event needs and secure space and/or equipment requests, coordinating as appropriate with facility and event resource providers.
  • Oversee and coordinate day-of-event logistics and activities for all events (virtual and/or in-person) including, but not limited to: registration and parking, prepare rooms and signage as necessary or Zoom / Virtual Platform; supplies as needed.
  • Ensure flow of event is smooth, services provided are delivered in a timely and professional manner; address changes and emergencies appropriately, be in regular communication with all day-of-event service providers.
  • Complete all post-event activities including, but not limited to: Create, initiate, and distribute event surveys, compile and disseminate event reports in a timely manner, connect with speakers and attendees on remaining items. 
  • Maintain a calendar of events and deadlines for SDRCC’s programs and projects. 
  • Handle and coordinate requests from team members for USD specific conference rooms and meeting spaces and coordinate on-campus parking arrangements for visitors when necessary.

Communications and Marketing 

  • Manage, with support from respective Program Managers and SDRCC staff, the development of content and dissemination of monthly newsletters, reports and blogs, SDRCC Annual report and other communication materials including announcements, brochures, newsletters, social media and website, and other promotional items related to SDRCC’s programs.
  • Develop, maintain, and post communications for distribution (via Constant Contact) including event/program/research announcements, monthly newsletters, and other partner communications.
  • Develop and maintain an outreach and marketing calendar, manage social media outreach and needed data metrics and reporting on post engagement. 
  • Support with video creation and/or editing (promotional, highlights, testimonials using iMovie) and uploading (YouTube, Vimeo). Provide backup support for website updates. 
  • Develop, maintain, and update website content and routine process updates as needed.
  • Assist the Director to develop annual program impact reports and design engaging marketing materials such as one-pagers and sponsorship packages as needed.
  • Lead the development of content and materials monthly newsletter, website, and other SDRCC communication and outreach materials as needed.
  • Maintain master contact databases and member network listservs and update these regularly.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, sociology, business, or related field 
  • Minimum 2 years of progressively responsible project management, event management and/or administrative experience.
  • Ability to take initiative, set priorities, work independently, and complete tasks under pressure in a dynamic environment of regular interruptions, multiple projects, and frequent deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, students, and administrators in an ever-changing environment. 
  • Strong, effective and sharp analytical, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload effectively and manage conflicting goals/agendas. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and exceptional critical listening and thinking skills and proofreading skills. 
  • Transportation to on and off-campus locations to deliver supplies and attend events. 
  • Fluency in event management and communication design platforms including: Google suite applications, Cascade, constant contact, Salesforce, Adobe, Canva. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate Degree in related field (may substitute for 1-year of experience). 
  • Professional fluency in Spanish. 
  • Willing to occasionally work early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends and attend necessary professional development and/or job-related training. 
  • Demonstrated interest in the area of communications, marketing, public relations, and/or resource development preferred. 
Posting Salary:

$5859-$6000/month; Excellent Benefits

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
