Outpatient Administrative Specialist	Syracuse
The Outpatient Administrative Specialist will manage incoming new patient referrals and assist with standardized patient check-in and check-out procedures such as entering and verifying demographic, insurance and financial information and generating routine forms and other documentation. Also responsible for completion of FMLA and disability forms as needed. Responsible for the processing of incoming/outgoing patient appointment referrals for all providers. In addition, will schedule complex multiple provider appointments. Will provide administrative support to ambulatory patient care functions. Will collect patient co-pays, manage denial process and assist with other Front Desk tasks. Works with/advises patients on insurance carrier requirements including services not covered and obtains documentation. Responsible for understanding the need for ABN's and Waiver of Liability. The Outpatient Administrative Specialist will answer calls, and obtain insurance authorizations as needed. Will prioritize incoming mail, faxes and correspondence. Accepts assignments to other areas as needed.

Utilizing extensive knowledge of Upstate Medical University services, the Representative will effectively and efficiently discern the callers' needs and appropriately assist. The Representative will provide one call resolution, when possible, demonstrating excellent customer service and problem solving skills, while assisting callers with appointment scheduling requests, clinical area messages and all other requests regarding providers and services of University Hospital and Upstate Medical University. The incumbent will utilize several information systems and will interact with departments, services and providers throughout Upstate Medical University while documenting call activity using information systems.

The primary duties of the Release of Information Specialist include screening medical record requests and authorizations to assure they meet all legal & regulatory requirements, per designated release type; completing release of information requests electronically, including generating letters & invoices, as necessary; logging release of information as required by HIPAA; invoicing for billable requests per procedure; communicating with practitioners to obtain requested information (i.e. Physical Therapy, Physicians, Case Management); preparing and certifying medical record subpoenas for court; and other duties as deemed appropriate.
