Job/Department Summary:
Under general direction of the Director of University Advising, the Advisor Training & Communications Coordinator independently performs highly complex professional student service work. The position provides leadership and guidance on best practices in the field of academic advising, aligning advising practice with institutional strategic priorities and student success initiatives. The incumbent will use highly developed knowledge of advising practice, pedagogy, assessment, and communications to develop creative solutions that address the training, development, and assessment needs of campus academic advising personnel. This position will focus on developing, delivering, and coordinating training programs for new and existing advisors across campus. Responsibilities include planning and assessing programs, services, policies, and procedures related to training in Academic Advising and integrating approaches across organizational lines. The incumbent will also independently coordinate with various campus partners to ensure cohesion of communications with students and with the advising community. Incumbent will perform academic advising, using a high degree of judgment, persuasiveness, imagination, and professional skills, to guide students on complex problems from the investigation and analysis stage through the solution and implementation stage. This position provides services to promote access, academic achievement, and student graduation.
Required Education and Experience:
EDUCATION:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field plus upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related.
EXPERIENCE:
Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent to four years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student services problems.
A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling, guidance or a job‑related field may be substituted for two years of the required professional experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional, personal or career counseling.

- Bilingual
- Experience collaborating closely with both faculty and staff
- Experience developing programming for students

Pay Plan: 12/12
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer - Mon-Thurs 7:00-5:30.
CSU Classification Salary Range: $75,840 - $108,168 per year.
