Classification Range $16.00 - $24.00 per hour
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $17.00.

Work Schedule

10-20 hours per week

Monday-Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm, with exact days and hours to be determined based on CAPS student assistant availability and departmental needs. Occasionally, weekend and/or evening hours may be required.

Job Summary

Position Description

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking student assistants to help spread mental health awareness throughout California State University, Fullerton. Help destigmatize and demystify mental health by joining our team!

As part of Student Affairs, CAPS student assistants will promote healthy mental health behaviors among fellow CSUF students. Within a team-oriented environment, CAPS student assistant are paraprofessionals trained to present workshops, presentations, and outreach events on a variety of mental health topics affecting our diverse student population. CAPS student assistants assist with overseeing the Wellness Room area and activities of CAPS – Wellness Room in Titan Hall.

Working alongside a team of other CAPS student assistants and licensed staff affords CAPS student assistants an exciting opportunity to develop paraprofessional skills in a collegial, collaborative and supportive learning environment. These skills include:

  • Mental health awareness & advocacy
  • Assist in the preparation of assessment and evaluation
  • Assist in the preparation of program planning
  • Digital marketing, including video content creation
  • Communication
  • Cultural competency
  • Public health
  • Leadership

Job Duties

  • Present interactive and engaging presentations, workshops, and programs regarding a variety of mental health topics including but not limited to: CSUF CAPS, Mental Health, Substance Use, Self-Care, Stress Management, etc. Content is created by professional staff
  • Assist supervisors with marketing (social media content) and promotion (on-campus events and outreach) to include assisting with creation of educational and promotional materials, flyers, handouts, videos, and social media materials
  • Assist supervisors with gathering and inputting program evaluative data using industry-standard software
  • Conduct customer service in a courteous manner while maintaining a professional and groomed appearance
  • Manage resource reservations per established procedures while maintaining a clean and safe work environment
  • Manage the front desk to ensure Guest / Visitors are checked in and directed to appropriate areas which includes answering phones and forwarding to appropriate staff
  • Be enthusiastic in the implementation of innovative ideas that develop CAPS service by promoting a positive image of the reporting of CAPS and its programs by keeping current on all CAPS services
  • Must adhere and assist in the enforcement of the policies and procedures of the University, Student Affairs, CAPS, and the Wellness Room
  • Must attend and participate in mandatory trainings
  • Assist with additional duties as needed

 

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
