Work Schedule

This position will require a flexible schedule throughout June and July. Shifts will vary based on the orientation sessions and training days. Specific hours and dates will be communicated throughout the interview process.

Job Summary

Outreach, Recruitment and Orientation is dedicated to fostering clear and effective communication with the parents of incoming students, including those with Limited English Proficiency (LEP). We are excited to offer an opportunity for students to serve as interpreters during Parent and Supporter Orientation sessions.

This role is open to all students, regardless of prior interpreting experience, provided they are enthusiastic about learning and committed to personal growth. We encourage students eager to develop interpreting skills to apply.

Participants will undergo a comprehensive 4-day training program designed to familiarize them with orientation-specific terminology and equip them with proven interpreting techniques such as shadowing, chunking, and anticipation. Ongoing personalized feedback will also be provided throughout the orientation process to support skill refinement.

As an interpreter, you will facilitate seamless communication between Spanish and English in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Your contributions will play a vital role in ensuring Parents and Supporters have a meaningful and engaging orientation experience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong listening, speaking, and communication skills in both languages.

  • Ability to work in fast paced environments.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all interpreted conversations.

Required Qualifications

  • Matriculated CSUF undergraduate student enrolled in a full-time academic degree program

  • Enrolled in 5 units or less during the summer term. Students enrolled in more than 5 units during the summer will be automatically ineligible for the Orientation Leader position

  • GPA of 2.5 or greater during the Spring 2025 semester 

  • Good judicial standing with the Office of Student Conduct

  • Able to attend all required training and Orientation session dates

  • Fluency in both Spanish and English, with a deep understanding of cultural nuances.

Background Check

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
