Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position

POSITIONS AVAILABLE: One, full-time (non-tenure track) position with emphasis in student success and engagement and one or more part-time (non-tenure track) positions with emphasis in collections management

THE DEPARTMENT: The University Libraries promote student and faculty success by providing comprehensive and convenient access to the scholarly record. The Libraries teach students how to become information literate citizens who will continue to learn throughout their lives. The Libraries serve as a hub of academic support on campus by providing an engaging environment for study and an integrated suite of student services. There are twelve full-time equivalent librarians in the department. 

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The one-year, full-time position has an emphasis on student success and engagement, collaborating with librarian colleagues to: train, supervise and schedule student assistants within a student ambassador/peer research guides program; create and maintain LibGuides, tutorials,  and other online learning objects; plan and create outreach and marketing materials and promotional campaigns for library services and resources; review and analyze physical and online library collections; and other duties as assigned, which may include reference (in-person, email, phone, and online chat reference) and other public service duties.  

The part-time position(s) has an emphasis on collection management, collaborating with librarian colleagues to: analyze library collections for usage, gaps, overlap, etc. to facilitate collection evaluations; conduct diversity audits in various areas of the collection; assist with promotion and marketing via various channels, including social media, of library collections; assist with open educational promotion and outreach; maintain the Institutional Repository (ScholarWorks) through self-deposit record clean-up and troubleshooting with users, as well as, creating tutorials and promotional materials; other duties as assigned, which may include reference (in-person, email, phone, and online chat reference) and other public service duties.  

Please note that the position may include day, night, and weekend duties on both the Hayward and Concord campuses of Cal State East Bay.

RANK AND SALARY: Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Anticipated start date is August 2, 2021.

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science or equivalent degree is required. Experience and/or interest in working with a highly diverse student population is required. Early career librarians are encouraged to apply.
