About the Position

The Department of Nursing is accredited nationally by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and in California by the State Board of Registered Nursing.  The department offers the BS in Nursing (Pre-Licensure and Post-Licensure) and the MS in Nursing.  The Nursing program maintains professional relationships with local agencies where students practice.  Clinical lab courses and internship experiences take places in hospitals, clinics, and public health and community health agencies (this involves interaction with approximately 60 agencies, such as all local Kaiser Hospitals, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, St. Rose Hospital, Eden Hospital, Children’s Hospital & Research  Center Oakland, Stanford Health Services, UCSF Medical Center, John Muir Health, Life Eldercare, St. Mary’s Center, Juvenile Justice Center, and Alameda Behavioral Health).

The emphasis of this position is placed on duties concerning admission to the impacted Pre-Licensure BSN and the Post-Licensure BSN programs and academic advising for Nursing Majors (Major Advising).  This position oversees the nursing admission process with assistance from and delegation to additional staff members. This role works closely with the Department Chair and University Admissions Office to review and set admission policies, confirms and updates admission processes, makes admission decisions by department and University deadlines, and notifies applicants of the decisions. This role recommends updates to annual BSN admissions applications and ensures the Nursing department website reflects accurate information. This employee is responsible for providing pre-admission advising via regularly scheduled information sessions, university and off-campus events (major/minor fairs, orientations), and office hours for one-on-one appointments. The coordinator resolves any transcript discrepancies, provides GE advising to nursing major students, generates graduation lists of pre-licensure and post-licensure BSN students, and checks GE completion as part of the department graduation check process. The role provides enrollment, orientation, and program planning support to the pre-and post-licensure program coordinators, with assistance from additional staff members. Significant cooperation with other departments on campus occurs for policy decisions and to facilitate student communication (History Dept, Human Development Dept, College of Science, Undergraduate Admissions, Academic Advising and Career Education, Registrar’s Office, General Education), as well as with the CSU Chancellor’s office and with community college partners, as appropriate. The role acts as a consultant as appropriate to the MSN Administrative Support Assistant regarding admissions. Categories of job duties include evaluating and reporting data for surveys and accreditation documents, and implementation of special events/projects.  This position has significant autonomy, policy-making, and decision-making and problem-solving responsibilities.
