DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL STUDIES

Part-Time Lecturer Pool Position

POSITION AVAILABLE: One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available.

THE DEPARTMENT: The General Studies Department serves incoming students, both frosh and transfers, to support them as they transition into life at Cal State East Bay. The mission of the department is to support and encourage students in their academic endeavors by creating a sense of belonging, identifying a community of support, and bolstering academic and self confidence. The department offers a Foundations of Success series for incoming frosh as well as support courses of incoming transfer students. The General Studies department is committed to supporting our diverse student population. 

DUTIES OF THE POSITION: Lecturer faculty in this position will teach Foundations of Success courses. A successful candidate should demonstrate familiarity with teaching first-generation, first-time college students and diversity in student learning styles. Candidates must be available to teach in-person. Please note that teaching assignments at California State University, East Bay include courses at the Hayward, Concord, and Online campuses. (General Studies primarily teaches in-person at the Hayward campus.)  The policy and expectation of the California State University is that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.

RANK AND SALARY: Lecturer. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience, and the salary ranges can be found at: CSU Salary Schedule. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Spring Semester begins January 17, 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in any field or bachelor's degree with exceptional instructional experience with first year students.

Minimum qualifications: 

- Experience teaching first time college students
- Experience in community or team building activities
- Demonstrated commitment to student success and innovative teaching
- Pedagogical flexibility to meet students students where they are at

Desired Qualifications

- Familiarity with CSUEB campus resources
- Demonstrated success working with first-generation and first-year college students
- Experience teaching neurodivergent students
- Familiarity with anti-racist pedagogy
- Demonstrate ability to support students develop their identities and build their confidence
