About the Position

The Technical Partner provides application and systems administration, project coordination, and production support of all new or existing specialized applications and platforms for the college. While providing support in this capacity, this position is expected to have a high level of technical understanding of department applications and technology, along with University supported applications and systems. The Technical Partner will also work with the assigned ITS strategic partner for the college or be assigned to other projects and technology efforts.


Applications and Systems Administration:

  • Provide technical expertise and recommendations in the evaluation, purchase, upgrade, and maintenance of software and/or hardware resources.
  • In collaboration and consultation with ITS, install, configure, modify, maintain, and/or administer applications, network configurations, databases, and other systems for supported applications in the college.
  • Coordinate and solicit ITS resources for the fulfillment of requests and solving issues where applicable, serving as a liaison between ITS, the college, and third-party vendors.
  • Coordinate with ITS operations personnel in backing up relevant data and plan for business resumption for applications.
  • Perform quality assurance assessments at determined checkpoints and report issues and action items where necessary.

Production Support:

  • Provide responsive support for production issues and outages, helping ensure minimal downtime and loss of productivity and service; focused on college related tickets from the Service Desk queue for IT support.
  • Assist various IT and college departments where technical support is needed, including but not limited to labs, classrooms, faculty offices, etc.
  • Prepare comprehensive root cause analysis and present alternative solutions with cost/benefit/risk perspectives.
  • Create and/or generate relevant reports where needed.
  • Ensure familiarity and compliance with University standards for purchasing hardware and software.

Project Management:

  • Apply ITS project management methodology in supporting and coordinating technology projects, and enforce appropriate project standards.
  • Work with the ITS PMO office and partner colleagues to communicate project status, risks, and issues effectively with management and constituents.
  • Participate and work assigned tasks via campus related projects.
  • Help estimate cost, resources, and time schedules for projects and technical work.
  • Support technology for course work, including build-outs of server(s) and/or software installation.

Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Support the college in special projects as needed and perform tasks such as: supporting college events that require ITS resources, keeping relevant and up-to-date knowledge of new IT developments.
  • Bring technical demand from college departments back to ITS Leadership.
  • Participate and help implement projects as a member of ITS.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related fields, or equivalent combination of related education and relevant work experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Work experience in implementing technical projects, including aspects such as: planning, design, development, and enhancements.
  • Knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of operating systems, network configurations, client/server architectures, and software systems and standards.
  • Experience with software applications as it relates to health and medical billing as well as insurance systems.
  • Strong consultative and analytical skills with the ability to work and communicate with users to define and meet data needs and requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively understand and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Ability to monitor and manage vendor relationships to assure responsiveness and quality.
  • Ability to positively work, cooperate, and collaborate with a diverse work environment that includes a diverse group of managers, supervisors, co-workers, and external vendors.
  • Demonstrate excellent facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 20 pounds without assistance.

Unsatisfactory results may also affect the continued employment of current Cal State East Bay employees who were conditionally offered the position.

All background checks are conducted through the university's third party vendor, Accurate. LiveScan is conducted through the University Police Department.
