Job Summary

Manage the comprehensive academic advising and support services for specific NCAA teams in the Bickerstaff Academic Center for Student-Athlete (BAC). In addition, assist with the development and programing of academic support for all components of the Student Athlete Success Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working under minimal supervision, coordinate the year-round academic advising and support services for specific NCAA teams.
  • Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Academic Support Services, assist with the development and programing of academic support for all components of the Student Athlete Success Program (Mentoring, Tutoring, Finals Prep, Academic Skills Workshops, etc.)
  • Maintain working knowledge and comply with all NCAA compliance, Big West Conference, Athletic Department and CSULB rules and regulations that apply to working with the NCAA student-athlete population.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of general principles, practices, and trends in the student-athlete field. It Is preferred that candidates have experience in athletic academic advising and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Knowledge of student-athlete academic issues and complexities is preferred. Skills in collecting and analyzing data are essential. Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations and is expected to show initiative and resourcefulness to interpret and implement these rule s and regulations. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSULB administrators, and students.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.  Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.  Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas required.

• A master's degree may be substituted for one year of experience.

Physical Summary

  • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring rate for this position is $5,083 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,083 - $7,228 per month.

Time Base

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment
