Position: Assistant Professor of Public Administration
Effective Date: August 17, 2027 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (2026-27 AY) classification salary is $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,200 to $7,800/per month. Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

About the College:
The College of Health & Human Services has 11 departments, including three clinical programs (Nursing, Physical Therapy, & Speech Language Pathology).  We have 21 bachelor's degree programs, 22 master’s degrees, and three doctoral programs. We have over 8,000 students with the largest number of graduate students in the university (above 2200). We have over 2,200 affiliation agreements with community partners, including hospitals, clinical and internship sites.

About the Department:
The Graduate Center for Public Policy & Administration at CSULB offers a NASPAA-accredited MPA degree that is designed to prepare students to lead and manage productively in public and nonprofit organizations. The GCPPA enjoys a strong reputation for excellence in graduate public affairs education. Established in 1973, the GCPPA has 3,000+ alumni in positions of prominence throughout the region. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in government, nonprofit organizations, and academia. This network of successful graduates continues to be a great resource for MPA students in securing jobs and internships. The program offers a dynamic approach to graduate public affairs education through a rigorous set of core and elective courses, delivered in a variety of in-person and online modalities. The core curriculum consists of courses in budgeting and finance, human resource management, organization theory and behavior, policy analysis, research methods, and directed research. Students may choose from electives in areas such as leadership, nonprofit management, grants administration, negotiating dynamics, employee-employer relations, race and public policy, strategic planning, urban affairs, and many others.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in public administration, public policy, political science or closely related field. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2027
  • Demonstrated potential for effectiveness teaching graduate-level public administration courses.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, scholarly, and creative activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to teach public budgeting and finance courses.
  • Evidence of research agenda in public administration and scholarly achievements (e.g., conference presentations, publications, grant activity, etc.)
  • Ability to teach a variety of core and elective MPA courses in a variety of modalities.
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom.

Duties:
Teach graduate public administration courses in a NASPAA accredited MPA program. Contribute to the faculty shared governance of the program, and contribute to accreditation activities. Engage in high quality research that leads to conference participation and peer-reviewed publications. Provide service to the department, college, university, and community. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)
