Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Equipment Technician II, Electronic performs skilled maintenance, repairs electronic laboratory equipment, assists with assembling instructional setups, and supports faculty and students in laboratory environments.

Performs skilled maintenance, repair, and basic modifications of electronic equipment.

  • Assists in assembling and configuring standard electronic devices and instructional laboratory setups.
  • Supports faculty and students in the use of specialized electronic equipment.
  • Maintains and updates inventory of equipment and components.
  • Provides technical assistance to students during lab sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to two years of journey-level or skilled experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of scientific or technical equipment.
  • Equivalent to two years of semi-skilled experience maintaining and repairing scientific or technical equipment or related experience in the type of equipment to which assigned as part of instructional support activities may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Equivalent to two years of trade school or technical arts training with specialization in the type of equipment repair to which assigned, completion of an apprenticeship program, or completion of a full military specialization in the required type of equipment maintenance and repair for one year of the required experience.
  • Experience supporting electronic lab equipment in instructional settings is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of test instruments, schematics, and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, Orcad).
  • Knowledge of electronics principles and practices, including the maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic modification of electronic laboratory equipment such as microprocessors, microcontrollers, digital oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and related instruments.
  • Ability to independently diagnose, repair, calibrate, and maintain complex electronic test and measurement equipment to ensure reliable performance for instructional laboratories and research activities.
  • Ability to interpret technical schematics, verbal instructions, and existing design documentation to accurately assemble, configure, and troubleshoot electronic devices and instructional laboratory setups.
  • Skill in effectively communicating technical guidance and safety procedures to faculty and students, ensuring proper use of specialized electronic laboratory equipment and associated engineering software.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
  • Classification: Equip Tech II, Electronic / 7013 / grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4422 - $5,250 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $4422 - $7998 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.  
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
