The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Success is a pivotal leader within the College of Business Administration (CBA), responsible for enhancing the academic experience for a diverse student body in a nationally recognized and ranked AACSB-accredited business program committed to student learning, leadership development, and career success. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Associate Dean is charged with driving strategic initiatives related to academic excellence, including managing curriculum, faculty engagement, student recruitment, enrollment and retention, assessment of learning, and operational management. The Associate Dean will be responsible for implementing the Mentorship- “In-Business-Experience” - Job student success framework. The role also ensures that the undergraduate programs are aligned with the mission of the College and University and responsive to the evolving needs of both students and industry. The Associate Dean will be knowledgeable of global best practices in business undergraduate education and will be well-versed in CSU norms and policies. Collaborating with campus stakeholders (especially with Enrollment Management, Outreach, and Student Affairs) will be vital to the success of this role. The Associate Dean provides formal supervision of all administrative, operational, marketing, and curricular matters related to undergraduate programs. The Associate Dean provides management oversight and bridges department chairs, faculty, students, and other University units.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Enrollment Management 

  • Collaborate with the CBA Dean to design and implement comprehensive strategic enrollment management policies and practices to increase the undergraduate student population while maintaining academic standards.  

  • Partner with the Singelyn Graduate School of Business team to promote graduate education pathways for all CPP students.  

  • Work closely with University Outreach, Recruitment and Educational Partnership to promote CBA degree offerings to all prospective students in alignment with institutional goals. 

  • Foster partnerships with SoCal community colleges to ensure robust transfer pathways to the CBA, supporting transfer student needs.  

  • Lead the development and execution of recruitment strategies for an out-of-state enrollment plan that will drive steady enrollment of out-of-state students in all CBA programs.  

 

Curriculum Management 

  • Articulate a long-term curricular vision aligning the curriculum with regional economic needs and national best practices, and college/university strategic vision.   

  • Provides holistic curriculum management of all current and future business undergraduate programs (majors and minors).  

  • Develop plans for keeping undergraduate curriculum current streamlined, consistent with leading-edge practices and relevant to the business world.  

  • Work with department chairs to develop and deliver high-quality programs in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) to meet the learning preferences of first-year, transfer, and nontraditional students.  

  • Serve as the Dean's designee on the College's Assurance of Learning and Curriculum Improvement (ALCI) committee.  

  • Work with the Undergraduate Assessment Coordinator and ALCI to implement and maintain an assessment program that complies with AACSB accreditation standards.  

  • Ensure that the University catalog is current. 

  • Respond to and/or coordinates responses to curriculum consultation requests from the Academic Senate. 

  • Serve as the College’s representative on the University committees and participates in Department Chair meetings.    

 

Course Scheduling 

  • Collaborate with department chairs to rationalize course schedules from a student-centric perspective, considering enrollment goals and budgetary, and faculty resource efficiency.  

  • Create policies to clarify the CBA’s stance on course modalities and communicate them clearly to department chairs and impacted faculty members.  

  • Supervise the allocation of classrooms based first on meeting the course's pedagogical needs/requirements and then on considering other factors, such as CBA facility resources priority. 

 

Student Success and Retention 

  • Align support for the mentorship- “in-business-experience”-job+ framework, ensuring students graduate with real-world business experience and career readiness. Provide support to the Dean’s designee tasked with building the mentorship program and tracking its effectiveness.  

  • Champion initiatives that meet or exceed the University expectations for student retention and graduation rates with a focus on closing equity gaps and addressing barriers to success in high-DFW courses.  

  • Foster an inclusive academic environment, promoting programs that support the success of first-generation, transfer, and historically underserved populations in alignment with campus Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) initiatives. 

  • Provide strategic leadership for academic advising and student support services, ensuring proactive interventions for at-risk students, including advising holds, probation, leaves of absence, advancement to candidacy, and graduation. 

  • Promote and administer programs for high-achieving students, such as the Dean’s list and Beta Gamma Sigma as an honor society to eligible students.  

 

Student Scholarships 

  • Collaborate with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and University Advancement to promote and actively administer the awarding of scholarships from public and private sources to students.  

  • Proactively communicates with department chairs, scholarship office and advancement leaders to ensure alignment and compliance with state and federal regulations. 

  • Report on the scholarship landscape to college stakeholders, including the Dean’s Advisory Council.  

 

Marketing, Outreach, and Community Engagement 

  • Collaborate with the CBA Marketing & Communication team and department chairs to enhance the visibility and reputation of all undergraduate business programs both internally and externally. 

  • Ensure that marketing materials, websites, and promotional content are up-to-date and aligned with CBA’s strategic goals and that they effectively reach prospective students and stakeholders. 

  • Develop active and positive relationships with external communities and business leaders in partnership with University Advancement (where appropriate) to enhance visibility and promote internship and career opportunities.  

  • Oversee the participation of the College in all University recruitment and orientation events.  

  • Assemble the Dean’s Student Advisory Council to act as effective ambassadors for all our undergraduate programs.  

 

Data-driven Decision-Making and Reporting 

  • Provide accurate and timely undergraduate-related data for AASCB accreditation, university reporting, and ad hoc requests, ensuring that undergraduate program performance is documented and transparent.  

  • Utilize data analytics and dashboards to monitor student performance, enrollment trends, and program outcomes, making informed decisions to drive continuous improvement.   

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A terminal degree in a business-related discipline from an AACSB-accredited university, with a solid teaching, research, and service record sufficient to merit appointment as a tenured associate professor or full professor in CBA. 

  • Consistent record of scholarly activities satisfying scholarly academic status per the college's AACSB faculty qualification standards. 

  • At least three years of experience in an academic leadership role as department chair, director, associate dean, dean, etc. 

  • Experience in building corporate partnerships to advance experiential learning, scholarship and student success. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic best practices, regulations, processes, and policies. 

  • Demonstrated experiences in promoting an environment that supports and values a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  

  • Five or more years of substantial administrative experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position. 

  • Demonstrated competences to collaborate with multiple stakeholders within college of business (e.g., department chair, center director) and across a campus (e.g., enrollment, student affairs, outreach, Center for Faculty Excellence, Academic Innovation). 

  • Demonstrated track record of successful collaboration with regional hiring industry. 

  • Extraordinary communication ability to inspire and align the position’s duties with the Dean, Associate Deans and Department Chairs.  

  • Academic department chair experience - especially with course scheduling, curriculum management, and faculty engagement.  

  • Experience in AACSB accreditation- especially with assurance of learning, learner progression, and teaching excellence.   

  • Experience working under collective bargaining agreements and in unionized environments. 

  • Experience in innovative teaching and instructional technologies.

The salary range for this position is between $175,008 and $185,004 annually (commensurate with experience).
