Lecturer Faculty Pool in Broadcast & Electronic Communication Arts

The Broadcast & Electronic University Department at San Francisco State University invites applications for part-time temporary lecturer faculty positions in 2023-2024. The Emmy® Award-winning Department of Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts fosters an inclusive learning environment that promotes creativity and scholarship in multiple forms of content creation. We represent the wide range of cultural, artistic, and scholarly interests of the San Francisco Bay Area and pride ourselves on offering a curriculum that balances theory and practice. Students get cutting-edge training and education in media theory, criticism, writing, business, and management, as well as production. Our new state-of-the-art facility opened for instruction in Fall 2023 and serves our 600 majors in B.A., M.A., and MFA programs. Facilities include multiple television studios, remote video production equipment, video, and audio post-production facilities, multiple audio recording studios, a student-run radio station, newsroom, and interactive, interconnected authoring laboratories.

Courses taught by lecturer faculty vary from semester to semester and cover topics ranging from production, writing, and business to media research, theory, and criticism. Possible classes include:

BECA 300GW: Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Research

BECA 350: Media Performance I

BECA 351: The Art of Voiceover

BECA 370: Writing for Electronic Media

BECA 462: The Television Documentary in the United States

BECA 560: Radio and Television news Writing

Qualifications

Required:

• MFA or MA degree in Media Production, Communication or a closely related field.

• Candidates with a Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of professional experience in media production or writing may be considered.

Preferred:

• Professional experience in the content area covered by the class;

• Record of teaching in the areas of media production, writing or research;

• Demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching;

• Experience working closely with students from historically underrepresented communities;

Salary

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The CSU provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.

Lecturer A/2 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $4,530 – $6,056 per month
Lecturer B/3 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $5,405 – $11,994 per month 
Lecturer C/4 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $6,190 – $13,172 per month
Lecturer D/5 Full-Time Equivalent Salary Range: $7,794 – $13,797 per month

Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
