Position Summary:

Are you interested in working for The University of Dayton Research Institute, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers - while living in sunny Florida? The Energetic Materials Group of UDRI, located at Eglin AFB Florida, is seeking and Electronics Engineer with a background in the areas of optics and photonics. You'll have the opportunity to work alongside a team of talented researchers, engineers, technicians and subject matter experts, contributing to projects, making a real difference through advanced science and technology development.

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct sponsored on-site research at the AFRL Munitions Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. UDRI is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, scientifically driven, entry-level research scientist/engineer with a background in any areas of optics and photonics.
This role involves utilizing advanced technologies and scientific principles to innovate in the field of electro-optical systems. Supports colleagues in project planning, project deliverables, and status updates through project reports, presentations and discussions with government and industry representatives.
Role also involves coordinating facility upgrades, equipment installations, and repairs; purchasing equipment, inventory items and interfacing with vendors.
Capable of independent work and collaboration within a diverse and multidisciplinary team, including scientists, engineers, industry, military personnel, and academia to achieve successful outcomes on project deliverables.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS or BA degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of three years of directly related experience.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and quantitative reasoning skills.
• Prior experience via employment, internship, or coursework in science or engineering research environments including experimental/hardware, theoretical/computational, or nanofabrication research.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work successfully as part of a team.
• Ability to understand and adhere to safety policies.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.
• Candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET level security clearance and Department of Defense explosive certification within 1-year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Advanced degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering or related field.
• Currently holds a security clearance.
• Candidate should be able to plan and execute systematic research efforts adhering to standard research principles. This work is essential to meeting the needs of our AF customer at Eglin AFB.
