Position Summary: This person will perform the function of a post-doctoral research engineer in the field of mechanical behavior of metallic materials with special attention given to understanding and modeling the interplay between microstructure and damage mechanisms from room to elevated temperatures. Major duties include leading investigations to determine and model the relationship between microstructure and mechanical behavior of materials, especially under cyclic and fatigue crack growth conditions. Additional duties include writing technical reports detailing microstructural characterization, experimental/computational procedures, and mechanical behavior findings for contributions into journal papers and technical reports. An individual shall not remain in this position for more than two years.
Minimum Qualifications:

• Due to security clearance requirements of this position, the applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.
• PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field.
• Four years of directly related experience.
• Experience in designing and developing finite element models, such as crystal plasticity, for modeling the degradation of metallic alloys.
• Experience in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, MATLAB, C/C++, and Fortran.
• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong engineering mechanics/strength of materials background.
• Experience in developing, calibrating, and validating advanced constitutive models within finite element codes.
• Familiarity with constructing, co-registration, simulation, and visualization of large three-dimensional, multimodal datasets.
• Knowledge and experience with advanced microstructural characterization tools such as SEM, EBSD, CT and HEDM.
• Demonstrated machine learning, data analysis, uncertainty quantification, and applied statistics methodologies to computational material science problems.
• Excellent record of productive and creative research as demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
