Position Summary: The Office for Values and Leadership at Yeshiva University is charged with serving the entire university, our alumni, and the broader Jewish community, promoting Yeshiva University's core Torah values and the teachings of Rabbi Sacks. We believe that integrity, responsibility, community, and excellence, sourced in the Torah's teachings, form the basis of a values-based education. Reporting to the Vice Provost of Values and Leadership and Director of the Sacks-Herenstein Center, the Director of Graduate and Alumni Programming is a full-time position that will work closely with the Vice Provost in the creation, teaching, mentoring, and development of graduate student cohorts and online education for alumni and the broader community. The Director will also work with the deans of YU’s graduate schools for purposes of recruitment and will be an active contributor to weekly internal strategic team meetings.

The Director should have a PhD in Jewish studies (or be in the process of completing a PhD) and have an active academic life in terms of writing, teaching, and publishing to model this for the graduate students in our program. The Director should also be able to edit student work comprehensively, have a demonstrated background in instruction at the highest levels, and bring fresh ideas and creativity to the teaching and learning of Jewish thought, particularly as it pertains to Rabbi Jonathan Sacks’ work.
Position Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include:
  • Participating in weekly team meetings to brainstorm educational and programmatic ideas and participate in Center activities
  • Create and maintain alumni networks
  • Be a helpful presence at the majority of Sacks-Herenstein Events
  • Co-edit and coordinate Sacks-Herenstein Center literary Initiatives

Oversee Sacks Impact, Scholars:

  • Identify impact projects in graduate schools with deans/faculty advisors
  • Recruit cohort
  • Facilitate monthly cohort sessions on leadership skills
  • Monitor project progress
  • Organize retreat/colloquium
  • Arrange tuition remissions
Oversee Sacks Research Scholars
  • Recruit cohort
  • Facilitate bi-monthly sessions
  • Edit/provide feedback on student articles
  • Facilitate impact project (18Forty)
  • Arrange stipends
  • Compile pre-holiday readers
Oversee Sacks Writing Workshop
  • Recruit workshop cohort
  • Facilitate/provide feedback in 6 cohort sessions
  • Edit student articles
Oversee Rohr Writing Scholars
  • Recruit Honors cohort
  • Develop student writing skills at monthly cohort sessions
  • Organize writing retreat
Teach Adult-Ed community classes
  • Teach pre-holiday online events (RH, Pesach, Yom Ha'atzmaut, Tisha Bav)
  • Conduct interviews with scholars
Teach/Facilitate Educators Program
  • Convene cohort of Jewish educators
  • Teach curricular materials inspired by the thought of R Sacks
Experience & Education Background:
  • Master’s degree in Jewish Studies, Jewish Communal Work, Organizational Leadership, or related field, preferred
  • Two to five years of experience, preferably within a Jewish nonprofit or educationally-based organization
Skills & Competencies: The Director of Graduate and Alumni Programming should have extensive knowledge of Rabbi Sacks’ works and also be deeply engaged in the art and practice of leadership. In addition, the Director should have:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies, including students, faculty, donors, and administrators
  • Knowledge of the Jewish community and its trends
  • Mentoring experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy
  • Robust analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to adjust to changing workloads and deadlines
  • Skill in developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn the internal YU computer and other systems
Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000
