Department Overview:
The Center For Educational Opportunity (CeO) houses UW-Madison's federally funded SSS and SSS-STEM TRiO programs. CeO focuses on ensuring equal access and opportunity, supporting social-economic mobility, improving financial literacy, and fostering a supportive institutional climate for eligible students through two federally funded grant programs and the state-funded Academic Success and Achievement Program (ASAP).

Schedule:
All Peer Navigators will be required to attend a week long in-person paid training to be held on August 18-22, 2025 and work the week of August 24-29, 2025, assisting with our first-year scholar orientation. During the semester your schedule will be determined by your availability to meet as group with your Peer Led Community (PLC). Peer Navigators must be present for Winter Retreat that will be held on January 19, 2026.

- Must be a CeO Student - Must be in academic good standing
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
- Ability to maintain honest, clear, and consistent communication with supervisors and peers in your group - Value being a positive role model for new incoming first-year students - Ability to address conflict or inappropriate behavior with a positive attitude and respect - Ability to work as a team with other Peer Navigators and take initiative with your group of incoming CeO first-year scholars Comfort and willingness to engage in public speaking for groups of various sizes - Empathy for and willingness to foster connection between all communities of people
Position Summary/Job Duties:
Peer Navigators are an integral part of CeO's first-year scholar experience and the driving force for our peer mentoring program. Our first-year cohort of scholars will be divided into small groups, currently referred to as Peer Led Communities. Peer navigators will be responsible for planning and facilitating small group activities for their Peer Led Community. The goal of CeO's Peer Led Community is to offer a space for our scholars to build community, while gaining access to knowledge and resources from students that not long ago had also just started their first year at UW-Madison. As a Peer Navigator you will serve as a point of contact for CeO first-year scholars once they are admitted to our program. In your Peer Led Community, you will provide a welcoming and supportive environment for students while offering advice and demonstrating healthy and productive practices for successful students in addition to providing space and opportunities to connect socially and build community.
