Department Overview:

The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Career Services oversees career guidance and support for around 3,000 undergraduate students pursuing 32 majors and certificates within the college. Our comprehensive services include career and internship advising, engaging programming and events, an undergraduate internship course, and fostering connections with the extensive UW alumni network and potential employers.

Schedule:

This role supports career services events and programs based on your availability, establishing a consistent schedule with flexibility to work around other academic program commitments. Weekly schedules typically occur during standard work hours (Mondays - Fridays between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm) with occasional opportunities for evening and weekend work supporting career programs and events. Job duties will mainly be on-site with some remote work possible.

Student status for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters
Able to commit to a regular weekly schedule

Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate student status for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters
Preference given to candidates that have some availability within office hours and the ability to work after hours for in-person events.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

A willingness to learn and understand best practices related to resume building, cover letter writing, interview preparation, job/internship searches, and graduate school planning
Interest in staying informed about industry trends, job markets, and emerging career paths in fields related to agricultural and life sciences
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Efficiently manage appointments, workshops, and administrative tasks
Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
Manage caseload independently and make informed decisions
Understand and appreciate cultural differences among students
Ability to collaborate with colleagues, faculty, and other campus partners

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Conduct individual 30-minute appointments with CALS students to offer guidance on resume and cover letter feedback, interview preparation, job/internship search strategies and graduate school preparation. Record appointments in the Advisor Notes System.
Deliver workshops on diverse career-related subjects to various student groups.
Provide assistance to the Career Services team, which may involve tasks such as marketing support, outreach, and participation in projects.
Engage in project work aligned with the needs of CALS Career Services and the skills and interests of interns.
Assist in staffing career events.
