Department Overview:

The mission of the Department of Geoscience is to research and disseminate information on the structure, chemistry, physics, and evolution of the Earth; life on Earth and in the solar system; and the interaction between physical, chemical, and biological processes that shape the Earth. We strive for breadth and excellence in our coverage of the subdisciplines and in the creation, integration, application, and transfer of knowledge in these fields. We aim to be at the forefront of scientific research, to reach a broad audience from students to specialists, and to provide knowledge useful to society. 15-20 hrs per week, flexible, depending on your schedule and the appointment type (PA or SH); some in-person regular office hours and some remote work expected.

Qualifications:

Well qualified candidates will have the following preferred qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific research to a general audience.
- Experience working in a communications role highly desired.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong attention to details.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to independently use Adobe In Design and Wordpress.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Student status, either graduate or undergraduate. Current ability to use Adobe In Design and Word Press. Ability to communicate with faculty, staff, and other students.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Communications Intern will draft communication content and assist in the execution of the department's communications strategy in support of our goals. This will include updating the department website (Word Press) and social media, laying out the department magazine using Adobe In Design, and developing a regular department e-newsletter (format TBD).

Physical Demands:

The work will primarily be computer based.
