Department Overview:

We are a department in the School of Medicine and Public Health that specializes in germ-free animal research support and husbandry. We work closely with faculty across campus focusing on microbiome research.

Schedule:

Variable hours available between the hours of 7am -- 4pm. We will work around your class schedule and exams each semester. Ability to work during summer break is preferred. Weekend work may be possible upon completion of training.

$11.00

Qualifications:

Ability to work independently or with others. Must have good communication skills and attention to detail. Must be reliable and show up to work on time when scheduled. Ability to work for several consecutive semesters preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Previous experience in working with or handling animals is preferred, however all training will be Must be detail-oriented and be able to follow directions. Must be organized, use effective communication and able to be a team player.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Duties include preparation and autoclave of supplies, set up and take down of vinyl isolators, cleaning of biocontainment cages and other supplies, routine animal husbandry in isolators and performing PCR in fecal samples for microbial surveillance.

Preparation of sterile supplies, cleaning of biocontainment cages and animal husbandry as needed. This position is 100% on-site.

Physical Demands:

Ability to stand for extended periods of time and to lift up to 50 pounds.
