Department Overview:

The Evaluation Research Group at the UW Population Health Institute is a team of professional evaluators and student trainees.

We partner with community, tribal, county, and state governmental agencies to develop, implement, and evaluate local and state programs in public health and human services. We also collaborate with national researchers, practitioners, and faculty and staff within the University of Wisconsin on evaluation research projects.

Our evaluators can advise on and implement a broad range of applied research methods, from qualitative and descriptive techniques to complex experimental and quasi-experimental trials. We also engage in rigorous intervention research design and evaluation. Our portfolio of evaluation projects reflects the full range of systems and health factors that contribute to population health and well-being.

Schedule:

FLEXIBLE! We are looking for PART-TIME WORK OVER THE SUMMER
● Hours will likely be between 12:00 and 7:00 p.m.
● Some weekdays and some weekends

Location
All around the south side of Madison. Most of the data collection will take place in the Bram’s Addition, Burr Oaks, Capitol View Heights, and the former Town of Madison neighborhoods north of the beltline.

Hybrid
We will be meeting as a team both remotely and in person, depending on everyone’s availability.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$15.00/hr

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States.

1. Enthusiasm for starting conversations with people you don’t know to discuss what matters to them.
2. OK with people saying no to you.
3. An interest in sharing opportunities for South Madison residents to shape community development.
4. A desire to support affordable housing development, build community wealth, and reduce gentrification in South Madison.
5. A willingness to make connections with various organizations and groups that have residents in the Bram’s Addition, Burr Oaks, Capitol View neighborhoods, and the former Town of Madison neighborhoods north of the beltline.
6. Ability and willingness to work in a team
7. Attention to detail when entering data.

Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

1. Actively attend trainings to learn methods of information collection
2. Collaborate on the development of data collection protocols
3. Use your training to collect stories, experiences, and concerns through a survey regarding housing, wealth building, and displacement due to gentrification in South Madison. This will be done through door to door data collection and attending community events.
4. Encourage residents to influence decision-makers in the common council and
the city regarding development plans in South Madison.
5. Present information learned from the Southside community to Madison
residents, local officials, and others.
6. Engage in current and future revitalization and community-building activities
