Department Overview:

The Department of German, Nordic, and Slavic+ offers a range of courses. We teach more than a dozens languages, including Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Icelandic, Kazakh, Norwegian, Old Norse, Polish, Russian, Sami, Serbo-Croatian, Swedish, Turkish, and Yiddish. Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will be a graduate student enrolled in a degree program represented within L&S, with at least one year of experience as an outstanding Teaching Assistant, a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and an interest in educational administration. Strong writing skills required. Familiarity with Judaism, Jewish history, music, and Yiddish preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

The ideal candidate would possess:
• Demonstrated interest in TA training activities at course, program, department, or college level.
• An understanding of and interest in teaching and learning effective teaching practices.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work well with others in a collegial and professional environment.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to complete projects in a timely manner.
• Discretion and courtesy in dealing with faculty, staff, and students.
• Familiarity and aptitude with Canvas

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Responsibilities: grading; teaching two Comm-B discussion sections
• Familiarity and aptitude with Canvas
• Grading of weekly assignments
• Classroom Instruction
• Course planning and preparation
• Office hours (2 per week)
• Student conferences
• Feedback on student writing and grading papers
• Training and mentoring with lecturer
• Administration and evaluation of exams
• Orientation
