Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

During the school year, MSCR offers Afterschool and Enrichment Programs at 15 MMSD Schools. Many of these sites have been awarded Community Learning Center (CLC) grants through the Federal Government. These programs offer curriculum to help support the students who need extra support in math and/or literacy.

We love our staff! All MSCR Recreation Inclusion Staff receive specific Professional Development training geared to working with people with disabilities. We provide ongoing coaching to help grow your skills and offer opportunities to advance. Gain the skills and experience needed to become a Lead Assistant Director for Inclusion Services or a Field Supervisor! We serve locations all over the city and try our best to match staff with their location preference.

Anana, Emerson, Hawthorne, Henderson, Lincoln, Lowell, Mendota, Midvale, Nuestro Mundo at Frank Allis, Southside: Mon 12:45pm-5:45pm; Tues-Fri 2:10pm-5:45pm

Lake View, Lindbergh, Orchard Ridge, Sandburg, Schenk: Mon 1:30pm-6:00pm; Tues-Fri 3:00pm-6:00pm

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Experience supporting individuals with complex medical needs and people with disabilities with more intense support needs.
Experience working in youth programs and/or inclusive recreation programs (childcare, camps, etc).
Must have proven dependability, teamwork, ability to make necessary reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and readiness to actively participate in all aspects of the program (including swimming and active games).

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience providing behavioral modifications and support.
Experience with staff coaching and capacity building.
CPR and First Aid certification a plus.
Crisis Management and Intervention Training, Managing Threatening Confrontations training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training or the like.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Assist with the inclusion of youth with disabilities in inclusive afterschool programs and recreational activities, provide reasonable accommodations, and collaborate with program staff to ensure active participation of all participants.

Lead inclusion staff work in collaboration with program leaders and site leadership to provide an inclusive experience.

In addition to the above duties, Lead Recreation Inclusion Staff are expected to support the site in one or both of the following ways:

The Lead Recreation Inclusion Staff takes on more responsibility due to a participant’s higher support needs.

The Lead Recreation Inclusion Staff provides onsite staff coaching and capacity building for program staff in regards to participants’ accommodation needs.
