Department Overview:

The Engineering Student Center is dedicated to supporting all College of Engineering students and creating a sense of belonging and community for all. We also oversee K-12 Outreach for the college.

M-F between 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and occasional evening hours

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
• College of Engineering undergraduate student
• Self-starting & independent worker
• Detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines
• Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient with common Microsoft Office Suite skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• At least 2 semesters remaining in their undergraduate studies (graduating on or after December 2025)
• Experience with event planning
• Previous direct customer service experience
• Experience working in Canva graphic design platform
• Experience using Handshake
• Availability to work on Tuesdays from 9:30 am - 12:00 pm and Thursdays from 9:30 - 11 am

• Provide friendly, empathetic and responsive service to internal and external customers and interact with the office
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple requests or customers coming in at the same time
• Reliable and punctual
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

Position Summary/Job Duties:

• Staffing reception desk (including high-volume drop-in advising periods)
• Answering phone calls and providing triage for students coming to the office
• Providing excellent customer service to all constituencies that visit the unit (ex. employer representatives, students, parents and guardians, staff and faculty)
• Assisting in the approving and management of job postings in Handshake
• Responsible for office financial processes including procurement card procedures and reconciling of receipts
• Data entry projects and maintenance of office documents
• Assisting with office-wide program planning and College of Engineering career fairs
• Serve as a positive Engineering Student Center and Career Services representatives and student role model throughout the College of Engineering and UW-Madison campus

This student assistant role will staff the reception desk and provide a welcoming experience for both internal and external customers and assist the Engineering Student Center and Career Service teams with programming and related projects.
