Department Overview:

The Information Technology Department at the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) manages the technology and computer infrastructure that drives the Agency’s business systems and automation requirements. The IT department manages infrastructure, software, and technical workflows that support the WHS's numerous program areas, 12 historic locations around the state, and its headquarters building in downtown Madison, WI.

Minimum: 10 Maximum: 32

Schedule:

Mon-Friday, flexible hours to accommodate class schedules.

Approximately 10-32 hours per week depending on student availability.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

Minimum: $16.00 Maximum: $18.00

Qualifications:

Enrolled in a related degree program (IT, MIS, Business, etc.)
Organized and detail-oriented
Familiar with Excel, SharePoint, or Power Apps (bonus)
Willingness to learn and contribute as part of a team
Strong communication skills
Ability to learn new software and technologies as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of basic IT concepts and practices
Ability to analyze technical problems and identify solutions
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Position Summary/Job Duties:

The Information Technology team at the Wisconsin Historical Society is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated student worker to support our IT inventory and deployment operations. This role will assist with tracking device and software inventories, monitor software versioning, help to coordinate software deployment updates, and support IT procurement activities maintaining clear records or documentation that support agency-wide technology efforts.

Hardware & Software Inventory Support
-Maintain records of IT hardware, licenses, and assignments
-Support software audits and update inventory tools (e.g., spreadsheets, SharePoint lists)
Software Deployment & Version Management
-Track and document software versions
-Coordinate with partner agency to request Software Center updates
-Help confirm deployments when needed
Procurement & Administration
-Help gather quotes, track IT orders, and maintain purchasing records
-Help monitor and create reports about IT resource consumption and usage
-Assist with lifecycle tracking and reporting
Tool & Process Support
-Use task management and process tools such as Asana or LucidChart
-Use Power Apps, SharePoint, or Excel to manage requests and data
-Help document IT procedures
Other Duties as Assigned
-Support device setup or deployment tasks
-Assist IT staff with general administrative support
