The Department of Computer Sciences (CS) offers a dynamic environment for study, research, and professional growth. In 2019, CS joined the Statistics Department and the Information School to form the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS), now housed in Morgridge Hall. The Student Advising & Support Services Suite of Morgridge Hall provides academic advising and support to nearly 5,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and aims to enhance the student experience through advising, events, and resources. |

There is anticipated student assistance and support between 9:00am - 4:00pm, Monday thru Friday, during the Fall & Spring semesters. The supervisor of the position will work around UW-Madison student course schedules and existing commitments to create a schedule of shifts that covers the needs of the suite and professional staff. |

Qualifications:

Current UW-Madison undergraduate student with availability during working hours (9am-4pm, Monday-Friday). Must be a current student during each semester of employment. Comfort with greeting guests and answering a phone line required. Students with work study preferred. Students in their 2nd or 3rd years preferred. |
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
|
Successful applicants must have strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written), and possess the ability to work independently (for individual tasks) and as a member of a team (to coordinate and collaborate with other students and professional staff). Successful applicants must also be familiar with standard uses of Microsoft Office products (such as Teams and Excel) and Google Suite apps (such as Docs & Sheets). While there will be training related to student resources at UW-Madison, applicants will need to feel comfortable speaking to their own UW-Madison experiences when working with prospective students and families.

Position Summary/Job Duties:
|
Advising Services & Program Assistants will work collaboratively with professional Student Services staff from the School of Computer, Data, and Information Sciences (CDIS). Positioned in the front desk and reception area of the the Student Advising and Support Services suite, Program Assistants will assist with providing quality advising experiences, academic events, and resources. The Program Assistants are expected to handle multiple administrative tasks and projects with the aim of assisting Student Services professionals improve student experience in CDIS and at UW-Madison. The Program Assistant will hold a unique position that will require strong communication skills, creativity, and a willingness to help others. Program Assistants will represent the student population in age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, country of origin, and other identity traits. Position Responsibilities: Administrative and Reception Assistance - Create a welcoming and inviting space for the Student Advising and Support Services suite - Assisting students with check-ins for in-person advising appointments or helping them connect to their advisor(s) - Support Advising Professionals with: - Data entry and gathering - Creative marketing materials for advising-related events - Provide student perspective feedback and suggestions on student services initiatives - Assist with prospective student visits/ drop-ins - Assist with various student services projects and/or events as requested
Advising Assistance - Serve as “first-contact” for unexpected drop-in questions - Manage and respond to prospective student e-mails and phone calls
