Department Overview:

Vera Court Neighborhood Center has been serving the Northside Madison community since 1994. We provide many services, including academic support and enrichment for our youth programs.

Schedule:

Afternoon Hours. Example: Mondays 12:30-5, Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2-5, Thursdays 2-6.

Qualifications:

Enrollment or experience in higher education.
Experience working with youth in any setting.
Experience with basic data collection and entry.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Good communication skills and ability to collaborate with others.
Organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to demonstrate cultural competence in youth work and the willingness to grow this skill, especially as it pertains to reading instruction.
Knowledge of or willingness to develop skills in reading instruction.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Seeking a literacy tutor to work with elementary and middle school students during afterschool programming at our center. Tutors work with students 1:1 or in small groups to develop their literacy skills and foster a love for reading. Tutors should have a positive attitude toward reading and be willing to learn about the science of reading for creating and implementing lesson plans. All training and supplies will be provided.

Physical Demands:

Ability to be active with youth when/if playing fun literacy games.
