Department Overview:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Archives and Records Management collects, preserves, and provides access to our University's documented history. We connect the campus community, scholars, and the public with UW-Madison's past to support an inclusive understanding of its present and potential futures. We provide expert guidance and ethical stewardship of collections that encourage engagement with the University's rich and diverse stories and cultural heritage. Schedule:

Students can set their own schedule. Meetings with staff and any onsite work must be during Archives’ business hours (M-F, 9-4p). The position is primarily remote. Depending on subjects, services, collection materials that will be highlighted, there may be some onsite work to do some research or to take photos. There may also be opportunities to help staff in-person outreach events.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be a currently enrolled student (or have proof of upcoming enrollment).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

--Desire to exercise your communication and design skills with a strong attention to detail
--Ability to write engagingly and professionally on various social media platforms
--Experience using social media platform
--Experience, knowledge, and/or interest in archives, public history, and/or campus history
--Ability to work independently, communicating pertinent issues to archives staff as needed

Position Summary/Job Duties:

--Promote the University Archives collections and services by creating compelling content through social media and the Archives website
--Conduct research using collections and other sources to write blog posts and outreach articles
--Keep abreast of events happening on campus and in the Madison community to create engaging current content
--Other duties as assigned related to outreach
