Position Summary

The Department of Geography and the Environment is seeking to a Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor for AY 2025-26 with expertise in remote sensing. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in introductory remote sensing (2-3 courses per year), advanced remote sensing, LiDAR theory and applications, and climatology or meteorology. Teaching load is six courses per year (two courses per quarter). Starting date is September 1, 2025. Applications received by XXXX, 2025 will receive full consideration. Essential Functions

  • Ability to teach the following courses: GEOG 3200: Remote Sensing (3 times per year); GEOG 3030: Advanced Remote Sensing; GEOG 3190: LiDAR: Theory and Applications. Additionally, must be able to teach GEOG 3600 Meteorology or GEOG 3610 Climatology.
  • Hold a minimum of three office hours per week to meet with students.
  • Attend department faculty meetings, colloquia, and social gatherings.
  • Contribute to department service as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expertise in remote sensing and geographic information science.
  • Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in remote sensing plus additional courses as needed.
  • Ability to deliver courses in person.
  • Familiarity with Canvas LMS is preferred.
  • Ability to meet deadlines for submission of course grades is essential.
  • Ability to provide feedback to students regarding their progress in courses in a timely fashion.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD degree in geography or related discipline 
  • Demonstration of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in geography 
  • Prior teaching experience in the specific courses listed 

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to lecture continuously for up to two hours at a time.
  • Ability to use a computer for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to sit or stand in front of a classroom for an extended period of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus

Work Schedule

While the University's administrative offices are open Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000.
