The Faculty of Health is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching, learning, creativity, social development, and ground-breaking research and discovery. We work closely with industry partners and government bodies to translate discoveries into real-word impact. This role will specifically be working within the School of Health and Social Development within our newest discipline, Speech Pathology. The Master of Speech Pathology will have a focus on disability, within a curriculum that emphasises collaborative learning.

About the role:

Lecturer in Speech Pathology, Education -focused (Level B)

The Lecturer will lead teaching teams within the Master of Speech Pathology program, contributing to the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of student learning experiences and outcomes. This role involves initiating, designing, and conducting high-quality scholarly and creative activities to improve teaching and learning outcomes in the Speech Pathology discipline. The individual will collaborate with colleagues to design, develop, implement, evaluate, and refine an innovative curriculum and pedagogy that aligns with accreditation requirements set by Speech Pathology Australia. Additionally, they will contribute to accreditation preparation and the development of student teaching, learning, and placement experiences.

As a Lecturer in Speech Pathology, Education -focused, you will:

  • Lead unit teaching teams and work collaboratively with other unit teaching teams in the course to develop effective unit curricula and learning resources (including through unit leadership roles). Contribute to the review of units and courses and implement refinements.
  • Adopt innovation in curriculum design at the unit level and deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery. Maintain deep discipline knowledge which is applied to inform unit design.
  • Develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics at unit level. Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners to demonstrate learning outcomes. Monitor and adapt assessment practices to improve learning outcomes.
  • Contribute effectively to a culture of educational excellence and engage collaboratively with peers. Build teaching and learning capability related to discipline or pedagogy and effective unit teaching teams and support the professional development of junior colleagues.
  • This position is suited to a person with an emerging record and passion for learning and teaching, a keen interest in contributing to community engagement for teaching and employability.

About the Role

Senior Lecturer in Speech Pathology, Education – focused (Level C)

The Senior Lecturer, will lead unit and course teaching teams within the Master of Speech Pathology program to develop, implement, and continuously enhance the student learning experience and outcomes. The Education-focused Academic will engage in high quality scholarship that has impact within the discipline and beyond. The individual will work collaboratively with others in the design, development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of an innovative curriculum and pedagogy for the Master of Speech Pathology that meets the requirements for accreditation with Speech Pathology Australia. They will also provide course level leadership in relation to professional competency development and practice-based education.

As a Senior Lecturer in Speech Pathology, Education -focused, you will:

  • Lead unit and course teaching teams and work collaboratively with other teaching teams in the faculty to develop effective unit/courses curricula and learning materials (including through course leadership roles). Lead review of units and courses and implement refinements.
  • Lead the development and/or adoption of new innovation in curriculum design within a course and deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and educational excellence within the discipline. Build teaching and learning capability and effective unit and course teaching teams related to discipline or pedagogy and support the professional development of other academics.
  • Conduct mentoring of colleagues to help improve their teaching practices. Integrate new pedagogical research across all aspects of education and collaborate with teams to support efforts to secure resources to fund pedagogical research opportunities.
  • This position is suited to a person with an emerging record and passion for learning and teaching, a keen interest in contributing to community engagement for teaching and employability.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Qualification as a speech pathologist at undergraduate or graduate level plus either a PhD in a relevant area or advanced qualifications and experience in academic speech pathology
  • Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of speech pathology course accreditation processes, professional competency development and professional standards, and of contemporary issues relating to the profession
  • Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design
  • Demonstrated passion for teaching and learning
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching practices to improve student success and engagement
  • Other requirements per the relevant PD for the position of Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) role, see attached
