About the role:

The Faculty of Health is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching, learning, creating and social development and fostering cutting-edge research and discovery. The Institute of Health Transformation places high emphasis on research that makes a difference and is solution-led. We work closely with industry partners and the government to put findings into practice.

The Research Fellow will be responsible for co-ordinating a large program of research and research translation into the Commercial and Economic Determinants of Health, as part of a new Research Translation Centre (the Centre) co-funded by VicHealth and Deakin. The Research Fellow will lead research and research translation activities and is expected to engage collaboratively to develop novel research outcomes. This position is suited to a researcher keen to explore and build on new areas, fostering research and researcher development to have real-world impact whilst contributing to a dynamic and enthusiastic research team.

As a Research Program Manager, you will: 

  • Co-ordinate the program of work for the Centre, ensuring effective planning, implementation, and alignment with the Centre’s strategic objectives.
  • Synthesise research activities and findings across the Centre’s work program to provide integrated insights and support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Lead the development and delivery of research translation efforts related to the Centre, collaborating closely with the Centre Director, stream leaders, and other team members to ensure research outcomes are effectively communicated and applied.
  • Establish and manage productive relationships with both internal and external interest-holders connected to the Centre, fostering collaboration and engagement.
  • Manage all reporting requirements related to the Centre, ensuring timely preparation and submission of comprehensive reports as needed.
  • Establish and co-ordinate small grants programs and related projects for the Centre, including the development of criteria, processes, and oversight of grant allocations.
  • Contribute to the preparation of new grant applications and actively participate in initiatives to attract additional research income related to the Centre.
  • Organise research forums and events relevant to the Centre, including planning, logistics, and interest-holder engagement to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration, including planning for outputs from the events.
  • Contribute to initiatives aimed at incorporating Centre-related research into teaching programs at Deakin, supporting the integration of research and education.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience.
  • Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and managing complex research programs in a university environment, including effective planning, implementation, and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Proven ability to translate and disseminate research findings through high-quality written reports, presentations, and interest-holder communications, ensuring research impact and practical application.
  • Strong interest-holder engagement and relationship-building skills, with a track record of fostering productive collaborations with internal and external partners.
  • Experience in research grant management, including developing criteria, overseeing grant processes, and contributing to successful grant applications and increasing research income
  • Experience organising research forums and seminars with planned outputs.
  • Background and/or knowledge and/or relevant experience related to the emerging field of the commercial and economic determinants of health.

Special Requirements

  • This position may require the incumbent to travel domestically and/or internationally to attend conferences, events and to represent the university.
  • This position requires the incumbent to hold a current Working with children Check.
  • This position requires the incumbent to hold a current National Police Record Check (if applicable).
