About the role

This role is critical to the success of the Advancement team growth strategy. Leading a specialist marketing and communications team and working closely with colleagues across the University, this position is responsible for leading a diverse range of campaigns and initiatives that drive Deakin’s ability to raise philanthropic funds and engage our alumni. A focus for this role is to lead a team that improves and standardises the quality of internal and external communications from Deakin’s Advancement division.

As the Advancement Engagement Manager, you will:

  • Engage and manage key stakeholder relationships to partner on Advancement-specific marketing and communication activities.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of core teams and contribute to a community of practice to align Advancement's engagement efforts with existing business messages and initiatives.
  • Interpret requests and in consultation with appropriate Marketing and Communications teams, establish pragmatic, inclusive and sustainable solutions based on research and aligned with University context, policies and practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to strengthen strategic projects and enhance both internal and external communication efforts.
  • Drive team-wide appreciation of current communication channels to boost awareness and engagement to enable opportunities to be leveraged.
  • Investigate and undertake special projects as required. 

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Marketing or Communications (or progress towards), or extensive relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading digital marketing and communications functions (in the philanthropic or higher education sectors would be highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging and accurate copy for a range of communication channels, often synthesising academic content into informal language.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating engaging content and communications for internal and external stakeholders and audiences.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create reports, briefings and presentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience in the production of digital content, social media campaigns and blog articles in a complex and diverse organisation.
